The Weald School Community Christmas Party has become quite the annual event in the local calendar. The event is organised by the school’s Community Captains, and supported by the local Rotary and Lions club organisations. This year’s event hosted over 70 senior citizens from the local community, with some of them being collected by mini-bus from their homes by volunteers.

The guests were treated to sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and mince pies, freshly prepared and served by the students. Entertainment comprised of festive songs by the Year 7 school choir, a performance from the string orchestra, and musical performances by students Benjamin Skirrow (year 7), Isabel Estyn-Jones (year 8)  and Rhian Silvester (year 10), amongst others.  There was also dancing, and a quiz to round the afternoon off.

One guest commented that she had very much enjoyed the event, and looks forward to coming each year. Another said, “You should be very proud of your students. They are a real credit to the community and to the school.”  Mr Fry, the school’s personal development coordinator said “it was delightful to see our young people engaging with the senior citizens, talking about their time at school and bridging the generation gap. Once again our students have shown themselves to be real ambassadors in the community.”
