Weald Welcomes Belgian Students
It was great to welcome 58 Belgian students (and their staff) recently from IEJ Nivelles to experience life here at The Weald. The students were involved in a tour of the school and were particularly impressed with the excellent compositions in A Level music technology and the experiments in A Level Biology.
The students were also involved in our "student leadership speed dating" in which they learnt about all the leadership opportunities here at The Weald including student librarians, student technicians, green power car, green club, house captains and reps, to name just a few!
The English department hosted a literature session with the Belgian students to collaborate on some poetry writing of ballads based on international news stories. 'The ballad of discovery' 'The ballad of BREXIT' 'The ballad of equality' and the 'love letter to Donald Trump' were particular highlights. As well as thinking about rhythm and rhyme, there was a political and current affairs dimension too. Year 12 English literature and English language students planned, wrote and delivered the two creative sessions based on their A level studies; so both sets of students got to practise their English skills in this collaboration.
We look forward to welcoming more students next year.
