Computer Science, IT & Creative iMedia

Curriculum Intent Statement

SEE BELOW FOR CURRICULUM MAP

Ensure all students are digitally literate at a level for the workplace and as active participants in a digital world in order to be successful in their chosen profession.   The curriculum is designed to cover most aspects of the digital world and enable our students to be lifelong users while being aware of dangers and how to keep themselves safe.

Computing as a subject has the grandest of aspirations, equipping students with the computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world underpinned by the safe and responsible use of technology.  Computer Science will enable students to think in a more logical way and become better at making decisions and solving problems.

Creative iMedia develops independence, creativity and awareness of the Digital Media Sector.  Equipping students with a range of creative media skills with opportunities to develop in context, desirable transferable skills such as research, planning and review whilst creating fit-for-purpose creative media products.

Key Stage 3 Course Information

In Key Stage 3 Computing we take a  Mastery approach to teaching, learning and assessment. In order to ensure that our students are ‘ready to progress’ to Key Stage 4 courses, we have produced a statement highlighting what students need to know, remember and be able to do to have 'mastered' the subject. It is against these that we assess. In students’ books and in their work we would expect to see evidence of revisiting concepts and content and students reflecting on their work and feedback from teachers. We would also expect to see evidence of the content and concepts students need to know - these will often be in the format of a knowledge organiser. This will be backed up with evidence of 'low stakes' testing so students can measure their own progress.

See our Curriculum map for further details on the content of the Key Stage 3 course, which includes links to knowledge organisers. Here is the link to the ‘Ready to progress’ criteria.
