Green Power Car National Finals at Goodwood Race Circuit

Weald students performed superbly on Sunday 13th October in the Green Power Car National Finals at Goodwood Race Circuit.  The Weald was one of just a few schools who managed to get two cars into the finals.

800 cars from across the country entered the competition at the start of the year and the event saw the culmination of regional elimination events across the whole country.  75 cars started on the grid with both the Weald cars - "The Black Bullet" and "The Purple Predator" on the second row.

The weather was appalling with both wind and constant rain to contend with.  After two hours of the four hour race, The Weald cars had incredibly climbed to first and second place.

But then disaster struck!  In turn, the batteries of both cars died just as they had been waved in to do one more lap.  This meant the recovery truck and over 15 minutes lost in race time for both cars.

Despite re-joining the race with new batteries, we did not manage to get back into a podium place and had to settle for 5th and 6th places - not bad out of 800 starters.

Although it was a great result, the team was a little disappointed as we had hoped this was our year.  Whilst it was not to be, we have already developed a strategy for next year and with a great team of drivers and pit crew we hope we can improve on these results in 2014.  Click here for more photos.
