Fundraising record breakers

Following their fantastic efforts in the recent Reindeer Run, Elgar students were recently invited to a cheque presentation event at Chestnut Tree House after raising over £3,000 for the local charity. This incredible total made their Just Giving page one of the most successful in 2015 out of 532,124 fundraisers, catapulting them into the top 3% of givers.

Students were also invited on an extensive tour of the hospice, allowing them to experience first-hand some of the services on offer and how their support has contributed towards them.

Whilst on the tour, students received a breakdown of how their £3,000 would be spent and go on to benefit children with life-limiting illnesses:

  • £1,953 of the total raised will fund a three night break for a child at the hospice, where they will receive specialist nursing care and symptom control management
  • £281 towards a Community Team home visit to provide end of life care in the comfort of a child’s own home.
  • £887 will allow a nurse to support a family immediately following bereavement, helping them plan a funeral and say their final goodbyes to their child.

Students also made a short film about their visit to share with the rest of their House to thank them for their past, and motivate their future, fundraising ideas for the Hospice. Watch the video below:

Jo Smith, Community Fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House said of the visit and Weald Students, “They were so engaged and interested to learn all about the house and the fantastic work that’s carried out. They have done an incredible job raising lots of money for Chestnut Tree House so I hope the tour gave them a little insight as to how important fundraising is. I would like to thank them all for their continued support, it’s been a pleasure to work with them all.”
