Key Stage 5

At KS5 students follow a course of three  - and in some cases four - Level 3 awards. For most students at The Weald, this takes the form of three A-Levels whilst some students choose vocational courses - Cambridge Technical Awards, Diplomas or BTECs - or a mixture of both. Our curriculum is organised and planned in such a way as to provide the greatest flexibility for students in terms of the combination of subjects they can study. We are able to offer a broad range of courses that ensure our students are able to pursue both their interests and future aspirations. For details see our prospectus or the videos under the Sixth form tab.

In addition to the Level 3 curriculum, there is a broad extra-curricular offer, the super curricular programme, the Extended Project Qualification and Enrichment Activities. These opportunities are designed to support the students' personal development, employability and to enhance their academic study. In addition, to support those students who have not yet met the requirements of Level 3 courses we offer the opportunity to study the core GCSE courses alongside additional Level 2 courses. For details see our prospectus. These curricular elements are further supported by our personal development curriculum, careers advice, support with future planning and work experience.

Students’ work will continue to reflect the focus on strategies to aid knowledge retention and the revisiting of concepts and content.  This will be supported by Personal Learning Checklists, curriculum plans and use of exam board specifications. These can be found under the KS5 courses link on the left. As at KS4, this will be backed up with the use of 'low stakes' testing and a broad range of written and spoken tasks to test retention and application of knowledge and understanding.

Finally, at KS5 students have increasing levels of independence and their curriculum time includes home study, directed study and study plus. These are all opportunities to develop learning practices and enhance the student knowledge and understanding of the curriculum. Our students have a broad range of strategies here but principally they are encouraged to use the study clock.
