STUDENT ENTITLEMENT FOR CEG AT THE WEALD SCHOOL

  • All students will have a planned programme of CEG to include information on post-16 education training opportunities and types of jobs. This is as set out in the detailed programme for each year group and complements the PSE programme.
  • At age 13/14, students will be given guidance by Connexions and Weald School on GCSE choices and vocational options.
  • At age 15/16, Connexions will conduct individual and group interviews with students on post-16 choices with input from teachers and school records. Parents will be invited to attend and will receive a copy of the report and action plan afterwards.
  • At age 17/18, every student remaining in full time education will be offered further information and guidance by Connexions on post-18 choices.

YEAR 12 / 13

Students on AS, A2 and BTEC courses will also have careers advice and counselling during their programme of PD. During the Spring term and throughout the Summer term they will take part in a series of seminars in order to prepare them for applications for Higher Education. They will attend Conventions and Open Days about Higher Education and during assembly time, speakers are invited to assist with post-18 choices. Students applying for Higher Education are given the opportunity to take part in the Centigrade programme of personal analysis. They have access to a wide range of Higher Education software in the Careers Room and in the school Library. There are several seminars for parents and students to inform them of Higher Education opportunities, conducted by School Careers Staff or the Careers Adviser. Students also take part in business and management courses organised by local industry. Work and study opportunities in Europe are available for Sixth Form students and BTEC students will have work-related activities linked to their course.

Individual counselling and interview practice is available to all students throughout their time in Sixth Form.

During the Autumn term of Year 13, students are offered a considerable amount of counselling to assist with entry to Higher Education or employment post-18. Connexions provide important support at this time.

Careers Education in the Sixth Form is supported by the Form Tutor and the Head of Year. The Careers Co-ordinator has considerable input into Sixth Form activities and curriculum planning through curriculum sub-committees and other working parties.
