Information
The Weald School is an over-subscribed mixed comprehensive with 1,500 students (including 270 in the Sixth Form), situated in Billingshurst, a large village in the heart of the Sussex Weald. The school serves a rural catchment area and is located close to the mainline railway station. The majority of our students have attended one of ten local primary schools within the catchment area, although our Year 7 intake draws students from over 30 local schools. Relations with the partner primary schools are strong, and there is a Key Stage 2 / 3 Co-ordinator.
The Weald was awarded Specialist School status as a Technology College from September 1998 and is now in its third phase. In September 2006 the school added Sport as a Specialism, and became the hub school for the local School Sports Partnership. From September 2007 The Weald also became a National Support School.
In March 2009 the school was OFSTED inspected and received an excellent report, and was judged to have many outstanding features. Eighteen of the judgements made by the inspectors were graded as “outstanding” (1), with the other 20 judged “good” (2). The report indicated the school had made excellent progress since the previous inspection in 2006 and was praising of its self evaluation.
AIMS
The notion of equal value underpins the ethos of the Weald School. In partnership with students, parents, governors, teachers and support staff we aim to: -
- Ensure that all students achieve their full potential in a disciplined, caring and stimulating
- environment.
- Foster the love of learning and promote aesthetic appreciation in the pursuit of excellence.
- Develop sensitivity and respect for one another and the environment.
- Provide a balanced curriculum in order to develop the skills and promote the flexibility essential for a changing world.
- Ensure the curriculum meets the needs of the individual student, providing particular support and challenge where that is required
We seek to appoint staff of integrity who are lively and ambitious, and who will have high expectations of all students. The school recognises that its continued academic success lies in an environment where high standards of work, behaviour, dress and consideration for others are evident at all times.
