Martin ‘Bugman’ Rapley returns!

Martin Rapley returned to The Weald school for his ever popular show, this year it was the return of the invertebrates.

On Thursday 16th May, Martin Rapley returned to The Weald school for his ever popular show. This is his fifth year with us, showing the many different animals he has in his collection from around the world. This year, it was the return of the invertebrates. Year 9 and 10 science BTEC students were given the opportunity to handle stick insects, cockroaches, scorpions and tarantulas. They could watch giant millipedes move and Death’s Head cockroaches fly.

For the first year we also offered one of the slots to our KS3 science club members too so that they could extend some of the hands on work they have been doing throughout the year and learn about some of the more unusual animals around the world.

Martin was based throughout the day, and after school, in our LRC so that many students could come at any time and ask informal questions and many more staff could come along and confront their long-held phobias about our eight-legged friends, meeting Lucy the giant red kneed tarantula!
