Information for candidates
The following explains how to make an enquiry about a result and what may happen following an enquiry.
If you or your school/college makes an enquiry about a result (review of the original marking) there are three possible outcomes:
- Your original mark is lowered, so your final grade may be lower than the original grade you received
- Your original mark is confirmed as correct, so there is no change to your grade
- Your original mark is raised, so your final grade may be higher than the original grade you received
Types of review of results
Priority reviews of marking, Priority EAR2 (A level/L3 vocational qualifications only) - This is a priority review of the original mark, to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. Usually requested only when a university place is dependent on a grade.
Non priority EAR2 (A level/GCSE/Vocational qualifications) - This is a request for a review of marking of units/components(papers) by a second examiner, ensuring that the mark scheme has been applied correctly.
Clerical recheck -EAR1 - This service is a clerical check to ensure all marks have been collated correctly and that special consideration, where applicable, has been applied.
Access to scripts (ATS) - A copy of the marked script
The fee for each of these enquiries can be found in the Post Results fees 2025 document below. Please be aware that the fee is per paper(component)/unit. An enquiry about the result will not be made until payment has been received. Payment is made via the school shop, not parentpay
