Subject Leader for Religious Studies
Full Time, Permanent Post
Teachers’ Main Pay Range / Upper Pay Range & TLR2c - £8,611

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, talented, committed and inspiring Subject Leader for Religious Studies to join the department from September 2026 on a full time, permanent basis. The ability to teach Social Sciences at KS5 (Psychology, Sociology or Criminology) would be an advantage.

The Weald is a high achieving, popular and oversubscribed 11-18 comprehensive school and sixth form college, situated in the heart of the West Sussex countryside, 10 minutes from Horsham, 35 minutes from Guildford and Brighton, and an hour by train to London.  The school has an excellent record of academic and pastoral achievement and we pride ourselves in creating a caring and respectful ethos where every child is important. Last summer, our A-level results placed us as one of the best 6th form providers in West Sussex; at GCSE our students achieved almost half a grade higher than their expected outcomes.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hard-working teacher who meets the criteria below:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • The ability to motivate pupils and achieve excellent results
  • Excellent organisational and ICT skills
  • The capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • A passion for RS and the ability to share this with young people
  • The ability to teach RS across an ability range at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • The ability to teach Social Sciences at KS5 (Psychology, Sociology or Criminology) would be an advantage, but not essential.

We will offer you:

  • A positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors
  • Enthusiastic students who are willing to learn and behave well in and around the school
  • A professional, hardworking and supportive team of staff with the capacity and commitment to raise student achievement even further

If you relish the opportunity of working with highly motivated students in a supportive and stimulating professional environment, The Weald School would welcome your application. We also welcome visits to the school from interested candidates. Please contact jobs@theweald.org.uk, if you would like to arrange a visit.

To apply, please complete an application form (attached below) and submit a letter addressed to Sarah Edwards, Headteacher, of no more than one A4 side, stating why you would be suited to this post (please see 'Letter to Applicant' in the application pack below for further details).  Please email your application to jobs@theweald.org.uk

The closing date for applications is 5th January 2026 at 10:00. Interviews will be held on the week commencing 12th January.

Please note that applications will be considered as they are received by the school, and you are therefore advised to submit your application as early as possible, as some interviews may take place before the closing date.
