Tell us a bit about yourself?
As the new Wilberforce Head of House I’m responsible for providing full pastoral care for the 260 students in my house. I work closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders and colleagues in leading the spiritual, moral, physical and emotional well-being of all students.
I’ve got lots of pastoral experience from my previous role at Littlehampton Academy, as a Senior Pastoral Assistant. Outside of school, I’m married with 3 children and enjoy reading, walking the dog and listening to music.
Why did you want to work at The Weald?
The Weald has an excellent reputation, known for its extremely strong pastoral system. When I came for the interview I was impressed with the calibre of the students that I met during the day and blown away by the warm welcome that I received from staff and students alike. The student panel that interviewed me were really impressive asking questions about dealing with bad behaviour and motivating and supporting students.
The role gives me the opportunity to support students throughout their time at The Weald, help them achieve their potential and work through any issues they may have – something I can’t wait to get my teeth into.
What have been your highlights so far?
The students! Wilberforce students’ have all been lovely, taking time out of their day to come and say hello and introduce themselves. They have been a great representation of the school.
What are you most excited about?
Getting to know the students better, particularly those in Wilberforce, and trying to make my students time at The Weald as positive as possible – something that really motivates me. I’m also looking forward to working closely with my form tutors, who provide a pivotal role in pastoral care. Their daily contact with students throughout their school career means they have a really great understanding of individual needs.
How can parents get hold of you?
I’m always happy to talk to parents and carers. I can be contacted on 01403 787 200 ext 267 or email probins@theweald.org.uk
