The Level 3 Diploma in Criminology is an Applied General Qualification that allows students to engage with a range of authentic case studies and to consider how the use and application of their learning impacts on themselves,other individuals, employers, society and the environment. The applied purpose of the course allows students to learn in a way that helps them develop the following generic and transferable skills:

the fundamental ability to work alongside other professionals in a professional environment

The ability to apply learning to a vocational content - relevant to criminology and the criminal justice sector.
Unit 1: Changing awareness of crime develops learners’ understanding of different types of crime, influence on perceptions of crime and why some crimes are unreported.
Unit 2: Criminological Theories allows learners’ to gain an understanding of why people commit crime, drawing on what they have learned in Unit 1. Learners explore the difference between criminal behaviour and deviance and the theories behind why people commit crime.
Unit 3: Crime Scene to Courtroom provides learners with an understanding of the criminal justice system from the moment a crime has been identified to the verdict.
Unit 4: Crime and Punishment invites learners to apply their understanding of the awareness of criminality, criminological theories and the process of bringing an accused to court in order to evaluate the effectiveness of social control to deliver criminal justice policy.
