Curriculum Intent Statement

Students engage with contemporary texts and issues that inform their viewpoint on the world. (Community)

Students become independent and critical thinkers.

Students develop knowledge about a broad range of engaging and relevant media texts.

Students are able to bring in their own knowledge of the media from personal experience into lessons. Sometimes, they are given choice about texts / projects.

Students become media literate, able to explore the digital world with confidence and recognise manipulation/bias
Students develop media skills that prepare them for their exams and future academic careers. (Opportunity)

Students become critical thinkers with skills that crossover to other subject areas, such as sociology, psychology, business, history.

Students can write and structure in a thoughtful way that will crossover with other subject areas.

GCSE students are appropriately prepared for A Level, and A Level for Degree.

Students are given opportunities to use creative software such as Adobe suite and Canva.
Students are prepared to work in the world of media. (Opportunity and Community)

Students develop real-life skills and relevant knowledge. Teachers relate topics to the working world and develop tasks providing real world experiences.

Students are given opportunities to learn about the working world from outside speakers, work experience contacts and careers advice.

Students can develop further skills through working with Weald TV and Radio Weald.
In Media our main regular adaptations are:

Use of visualisers to provide explicit live modelling and WAGOLLS

Using visual learning - images, videos, websites

Use of vocabulary and supportive sentence stems/paragraph acronyms (writing KO to follow in summer 2024)

Verbal feedback and questioning to check, clarify and extend understanding - frequent use of Red Review as starters with whiteboards

Modelling confident use of media specific language and terminology
