There has never been a more important time to study Sociology. Our world is home to 7.5 billion people. As a result of globalisation, we have never been more connected, yet people’s lives are characterised by diversity and division. Some people live comfortably, while others struggle to feed their families. Some have the good fortune to live in peace and security, others fear for their safety every day. As we navigate this period of rapid social change, and confront the challenges posed by inequality and the climate emergency, understanding what makes societies work has never been more pressing. Sociology as a discipline tries to answer big questions: how can people live and work amicably together? How can we make collective decisions that benefit all humanity and bring about happiness and social progress?  There are no easy answers, yet the need to explore these questions is paramount.
