Curriculum
Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8)
At The Weald, we have devised an innovative and enriching curriculum in order to maximise the achievement and enjoyment of students. Along with many other high performing schools, we have moved to a two year Key Stage 3 which gives all students the entitlement to follow a broad, balanced curriculum. We have developed our own well-integrated systems to track and monitor student achievement to ensure progress for all over the two years.
Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 and 11)
As our KS3 is two years, we are able to offer an extended three year Key Stage 4. This allows us to offer a broad range of academic and vocational qualifications in order to meet the needs of all students who can choose the most suitable pathway to maximise their potential.
In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, students have the opportunity to follow subjects that allow them to fulfil the English Baccalaureate suite of qualifications (History or Geography as well as a Modern Foreign language). In addition, we encourage students to follow a broad and balanced curriculum when selecting their options, pursuing their interests whilst choosing subjects that will ensure that they are ready for the next stage of their education. Some students will have the opportunity to continue vocational courses in Years 10 and 11 with one day a week at a local college.
Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form)
The Sixth Form College has its own identity and ethos, promoting individual excellence within a caring and supportive community. Our Sixth form students work hard to achieve very strong examination results and we are extremely successful in working with students to achieve places at their chosen universities, FE colleges and work or training placements. The majority of students study with us for two years, although some follow courses which last for one year. Students typically study three subjects in their first year in the Sixth Form, although some choose to follow two or four subjects. Full details of our Key Stage 5 curriculum choices can be found in the Sixth Form prospectus within our dedicated "Sixth Form" area of our website.
